Job Purpose:

  • Legg Mason is seeking a Product Development Manager to join the European-based product team, which plays a vital role in the development of new product capabilities across the Global Distribution businesses and range management of existing products
  • The European team primarily supports the cross-border and UK lines distributed through LMGD across the UK and continental Europe
  • Additionally, this role also provides support to our Miami-based Americas distribution platform and interacts with colleagues in Asia as well
  • Members of the International Product team are based in London, Japan, Singapore, and Melbourne
  • As the Product Development Manager, you would perform a key role in developing and coordinating all product development and range management initiatives for your target client groups

Your Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and responsibility for the development of new products and initiatives, including but not limited to, fund launches, repositions and strategic changes
  • Communication of new product launches and changes to LM Business stakeholders
  • Preparing proposals to internal committees to ensure product development initiatives are approved by the relevant business stakeholders
  • Product delivery: Coordinate new fund launches and product initiatives by ensuring their timely completion; facilitating effective communication and input between key stakeholders; and working with relationship management teams to provide milestone progress updates
  • Support the product lifecycle process. Includes conducting post launch and post implementation reviews of product developments
  • Partner with the LM business including sales, client service, PSG and marketing teams to identify product development opportunities with new and existing
  • Keep abreast of product trends in the investment industry through regular market and competitor analysis and identify opportunities for Product solutions working closely with the Product Strategy Team
  • Respond to product related enquiries from various areas of the business
  • Supporting the key objectives of the team, which are:
  • Delivering new investment strategies/Product Solutions for LMGD’s cross-border and UK mutual fund platforms
  • Identifying and acting on information to improve the efficiency of the product offer via amendment, merger or rationalisation
  • Ensuring implementation of product-related initiatives is timely and well executed across the business
  • Keeping abreast of commercial and regulatory developments and interpreting them into meaningful and compelling proposals
  • Supporting the impact assessment, co-ordination and delivery of product change brought about by external factors such as MiFID II etc.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3 – 5 + years experience of one or more aspects of product development and mutual fund range management including managing multiple activities simultaneously (e.g. , , product development, client solution orientated, product-based project management and business coordindation)
  • Degree educated, industry qualification helpful (IMC at a minimum)
  • Technical knowledge of pooled fund structures including UCITs and non-UCITS across a range of domiciles, with knowledge of UK and Ireland most relevant
  • An understanding of investment management, regulatory, tax and operational requirements relating to product design and commercial success
  • Experience dealing with Institutional Sales/Distribution teams to solve client solutions from a product perspective
  • An understanding of the end-to end product lifecycle process
  • An understanding of the regulatory environment to establish the impact on product development and business opportunities
  • Experience working with Product Strategy teams to shape and understand the product development strategy
  • Broad based knowledge of entire asset class spectrum desirable, including equities, fixed income, alternatives and ETFs
  • Proactive approach to support a heavy change agenda – able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to articulate product ideas appropriate for the intended audience
  • Ability to build and retain strong effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners across the business at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills to deliver projects within a large, complex, cross functional environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
