Job Purpose and Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead a highly productive team of sales representatives, utilizing various communication platforms, including phone, video, screen share and/or in-person interactions. Team covers wirehouse and independent financial advisors across the broker/dealer community
  • Advance sales skills among internal sales team members to ensure ability to effectively articulate the Legg Mason value proposition and align investment strategies to client needs. This includes but is not limited to the ability to position product within portfolios, the ability to position product across the competitive product landscape and the ability to effectively leverage other internal resources throughout the sales process
  • Leverage data and analytics and collaborate with internal and external partners to drive business planning, activity, campaigns and other initiatives to achieve profitable growth
  • Enhance the productivity of the Internal Wholesaling team by increasing utilization of performance management tools and processes
  • Ensure effective communication and partnership between Regional Directors and Internal Wholesalers to facilitate cohesive strategies and coordinated sales efforts
  • Evaluate the quality of each Internal Wholesaler’s contribution via routine phone monitoring, providing quarterly reviews, and providing ongoing coaching, training and feedback to enhance selling skills and territory management abilit
  • Facilitate a dynamic sales environment conducive to teamwork and maintain high levels of motivation and activity among staff
  • Represent the Internal Sales Desk organization in internal and external client meetings
  • Recruit, hire and develop a talented and diverse sales desk team
  • Execute full supervisory responsibilities for Internal Wholesaling team under direct supervision
  • Problem resolution, troubleshooting and compensation management.
  • Travel required-approx. 50%.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of financial industry experience in a sales capacity with mutual funds, managed accounts, ETFs and closed end funds, and/or at least 3+ years of demonstrated success managing or leading Sales teams
  • Demonstrated leadership characteristics with proven ability to motivate an internal sales organization, achieve team cohesion, and build relationships to achieve results
  • Proven investment acumen and knowledge of a consultative sales approach and ability to leverage data and analytics.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing and selling investment products
  • Extensive knowledge of financial markets and securities, ability to assess market trends, and ability to identify educational opportunities for the team
  • Excellent coaching, development and training skills
  • Sound understanding of the retail distribution process
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding energy, focus, and drive to achieve results
  • Ability to interact effectively and build strong partnerships at all levels of the organization
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CIMA, CFA a plus
  • FINRA Series 7, 66, and 24.
