Job Purpose: 

  • As a key component of the Product Strategy and Investment Services department, the Americas Product and Market Research (APMR) unit is responsible for providing product, market, and competitive insight to internal business areas across the firm
  • APMR provides in-depth product research and analysis to enhance business development opportunities in North America
  • The group also provides market intelligence to support product development / rationalization efforts and strategic product line initiatives
  • Furthermore, APMR supports product positioning efforts through careful analysis of the competitive marketplace
  • APMR works with a wide array of internal clients including Sales, Marketing, Investment Teams, Invesco Board, and Legal/Compliance departments.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Support Canadian retail distribution channels in product-related research and analysis
  • Support the Wealth Management Platform (WMP) group by building relationships with Retail Business Development teams who work directly with advisors or gatekeepers
  • Typical activities associated with this role would include:
    • Helping identify and anticipate client product, platform, and model needs by conducting insightful competitive intelligence
    • Highlighting each WMP’s strengths, weaknesses, and gaps, and overlay these against Invesco’s capabilities
    • Developing an understanding of each WMP’s product offering set and their decision-making process
    • Collaborating with colleagues to identify new ways to leverage platform product data that can lead to incremental insights
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for thorough information related to investment performance, process, positioning, and characteristics
    • Assist Wholesalers at the advisor level in competitive or complementary sales efforts
    • Own project materials in construction of fund monitoring across firm data collection
    • Build out reports/alerts against several data points for proactive trend monitoring
    • Provide competitive intelligence and market insights to various internal business partners
    • Become a lead point-person for Sales, Product Managers, and Client Portfolio Managers in identifying and tracking key competitors and uncovering potential takeover opportunities for the retail and institutional channels
    • Assist Invesco’s product development efforts by providing research on peer group construction, historical performance, and pricing-related information
    • Support Invesco’s strategic planning efforts by producing analysis on overall competitive position and strengths/weaknesses of specific products
    • Develop and share insights on industry trends affecting retail and institutional channels such as flows, pricing, and allocation shifts
    • Proficient use of third-party databases and research tools
    • Understand the full functionality of available research tools covering mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), managed accounts, and other retail vehicles
    • Examples of competitor databases and tools include Morningstar Direct, Zephyr StyleADVISOR, Strategic Insight, and eVestment Alliance
    • Utilize expertise on third-party databases for ongoing and ad hoc competitor and market research, pairing the right tool(s) with each request
    • Maintain/develop production of recurring reports
    • Manage monthly and quarterly reporting packages related to competitor analyses and positioning for retail and institutional channels
    • Constantly look for opportunities to enhance content and efficiency of report production
    • Perform quality control checks as required for various reporting components
    • Coordinate with other internal teams such as Global Performance Measurement and Risk as needed
    • Oversee and maintain Product reporting for retail and institutional channels
    • Develop and maintain internal reporting on industry product trends (asset class, category, sales, redemptions, market share) to be supplied to Product Development, Product Management, Marketing, Sales and Executives
    • Facilitate the production of Marketing-related communications, both product and capital market specific
    • Oversee and ensure Institutional/National Accounts regular and ad-hoc reporting requirements are met and accurate
    • Assist with product-related questions on Request for Proposals (RFPs) as needed
    • Provide product performance reporting for Invesco Canada to supplement what is provided by the Global Performance
    • Measurement and Risk team
    • Participate on special projects as needed
    • Assume a supporting role in larger, more complex projects and may have a leading role in smaller, less complex projects.

Skills and Qualifications:  

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field is required
  • Completion of or enrollment in the CFA program an asset
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in the financial services industry is necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position
  • Team player with proven ability to gain consensus
  • Previous people-management experience is considered an asset

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
