The Multi Asset team at BMO Global Asset Management Canada is part of a global Multi Asset team and manages over CAD$50 billion in funds and strategies. The Multi Asset team manages a wide range of strategies, including but not limited to risk bucketed global multi asset funds, fund of ETFs, target date and risk funds and retirements funds. The team employs both fundamental and quantitative investment approaches and invests in global equity, bonds and currency markets. The team is located in Toronto, Chicago, London and Hong Kong.

Job Purpose:

  • The Senior Investment Strategist role is based in Toronto and will primarily focus on developing a coherent view of the outlook for the global economy and capital markets incorporating investment, macro-economic and other relevant factors in support of our investment strategies
  • A key aspect of the role will also be to articulate the investment views in support of the strategies to our internal and external clients
  • It is expected that the Strategist will work closely with global members of the Strategy and Portfolio Management teams

Your Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing market views for our strategies in collaboration with the global teams. Take lead in developing views on Canadian markets
  • Work closely with the research and portfolio management teams to develop a deep understanding of the portfolio strategies and their construction. Liaise with other investment and support teams
  • Conduct ad-hoc research as needed to support the investment process with a specific focus on multi-asset class investment strategies and component asset classes
  • Stay abreast of market developments including factor investing and evolving multi asset strategies and help guide the development of investment strategies
  • Act as “subject matter expert” on macro-economic and capital markets-related topics for distribution partners including writing commentary on the economic and capital markets outlook and/or the rationale for the asset allocation positioning
  • Support sales and marketing efforts of Multi Asset strategies including making presentations at conferences and to potential investors both in the institutional and retail channels
  • Develop a results focused and motivated team culture and foster development of team members

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business or similar discipline
  • CFA designation not required but a plus
  • Aptitude for evidence based investing
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant capital markets, macroeconomics or investment management experience
  • Experience managing or supporting multi-asset investment or global equity/fixed income strategies is desirable
  • Familiarity with factor investing and currency markets is a plus
  • Client facing experience with institutional and retail clients is beneficial
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • An open and inquisitive mind to accept new ideas while challenging existing assumptions.
