Job Purpose:

  • Product Manager will be instrumental in creating the framework for a successful product line in Russell Investments’ Canadian market
  • By gaining strong support from colleagues throughout the organization, this role will embrace the entire product lifecycle
  • This role will actively provide input into product strategy formulation, product design and product implementation acting as a conduit between the different teams
  • Will manage the existing product line and assessing viability and pricing and will be critical in the implementation of product changes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Strategic (25%): Evaluate relevant industry trends, the competitive environment, client needs, investment capabilities, and business requirements to enhance and develop product strategies. Collaborate with the Business Management, Marketing and Operations to define the product strategy for distribution
  • Service (25%): Support product and overall business strategy by serving as a product subject expert, including technical product knowledge and product profitability, product placement at partner platforms and key market segments, as well as product competitive environment
  • Management (40%): Strong project management skills to take a lead role and ensure effective coordination among sales, the investment team, legal, risk, compliance, operations, marketing, and other stakeholders in product development and management activities. Monitor the business performance of the product line. Identify and evaluate potential product development, rationalization or management opportunities
  • Data & Reporting (10%): Ensure effective processes are in place and followed to support product management and product development activities. Develop reporting and data requirements to support product positioning and an ongoing product line monitoring.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree within a business, finance, accounting, or related field required
  • CSC, CFA or CIM preferred
  • 5+ years experience in the Canadian asset management industry
  • Demonstrates ability to identify key issues, opportunities and threats; appraise commercial opportunities; design and interpret research; define product development and management priorities
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills and strategic thinking capabilities including ability to clearly define a problem, synthesize data to drive to fact-based insights and strategic implications
  • Experience establishing internal and external networks to develop ongoing stream of competitive and market information
  • The ability to interpret the financial components of products, including pricing models, revenue/profit models and budgets
  • Knowledgeable in the technical aspects of Canadian sold products and platforms, including Funds, ETFs, separate accounts and managed account platforms
  • Ability to interpret financial and regulatory components of product development and management, including the creation of registration materials, offering documents and governance materials
  • An ability to work independently but also the ability to develop relationships with other leaders in the Russell Investments who are stakeholders in the market you represent
  • The ability to communicate openly and confidently in presentations and in front of Clients and Executives
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure
  • Problem-solving capabilities including an ability to anticipate potential problems.
