Job purpose:

  • We are looking to hire an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Analyst to join the Global Balanced Risk controlled (GBaR) team in London
  • The Global Balanced Risk Control (GBaR) team is part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM)’s Solutions and Multi-Asset Group
  • The team manages US$22bn (as of 30 September 2020) in risk-targeting strategies, run to a process that has been in place since 2009 and which has achieved superior long-term risk-adjusted performance
  • The successful candidate will work together with fund managers and analysts on the analysis and integration of sustainability factors, with a view to delivering enhanced long-term investment returns.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-going monitoring of material ESG risks and contribute to enhancement of exclusion policy
  • Support on-going integration of ESG analysis into our asset allocation and portfolio construction process
  • Conduct thematic research and contribute to investment discussions, especially on ESG related topics
  • Lead thematic engagements with portfolio companies, liaise with global stewardship team on proxy voting related matters
  • Maintain engagement records and build a robust outcome tracking system over time
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders such as the sustainability council, track sustainability developments and provide insights on how they affect GBaR team’s sustainable product offering
  • Contribute towards ESG thought leadership publications to support commercial activities and client communication
  • Work with the sales support teams to write detailed RFP’s and RFI’s
  • Contribute to the wider Sustainable agenda in areas including regulatory and policy-related developments, guidelines and standards.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Previous relevant professional asset management experience, within ESG investing or associated fields
  • Strong academics; educated to degree standard or equivalent (Finance or Sustainability related a plus)
  • Experience in working with datasets from ESG data providers beneficial
  • Ability to interact with clients within the financial industry
  • Highly detail-oriented self-starter and team player, with the ability to maintain accuracy and effectiveness while working in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in a second language is beneficial.
