Job Purpose: 

  • The role is focused on supporting HSBC’s passive equity products, with a focus on the HSBC ETF range and the ETF Capital Markets function
  • The individual will also have a role supporting the Senior Product Specialists for passive equity
  • The individual will work closely with the portfolio management team as well as supporting the ETF and overall passive equity sales and servicing activities
  • There will be an active engagement in the coverage of the ETF broker community with a particular focus on the ETF order execution process
  • This position sits within the Equity Product Group reporting to the Senior Product Specialist for Passive Equity.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Service providers and ETF broker community:
    • Assist clients through the ETF execution phase
    • Support onboarding of new APs and coverage of existing APs and ETF brokers
  • Represent Investment Team to Internal and External Clients:
    • Support Senior Passive Equity Product specialist and ETF Capital Market Specialist
    • Produce ETF spread reports and other trading activity reports to measure HSBC ETFs trading and market maker performance
    • Produce regular newsletters and ETF market analysis reports
    • Proactively monitor the passive investment market
    • Provide content for marketing materials and contribute to RFPs
    • Prepare topical market and strategy updates to sales teams on a regular basis
    • Proactively communicate sales propositions and investment opportunities
  • Product Development and Strategy:
    • Support the evolution of product capabilities (e.g. new product features, re-organisation etc.), including new fund launches
    • Build solid understanding of competitive positioning

  • Major Challenges:
    • HSBC Global Asset Management is active in the overall passive investment space, including the European ETF market, one of the growth areas in asset management, but also a very competitive market place
    • Passive equities including active systematic strategies and ETFs as wrapper, are relatively new concepts for many of our sales teams and clients and will need to be educated with a steep learning curve
    • Ability to work with multiple internal stakeholders within HSBC Global Asset Management
    • Complexity of the business and multiple client/regulatory jurisdictions
    • Compliance with a changing regulatory environment
  • Management of Risk:
    • Is aware of Operational Risks associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.

    • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
    • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy
    • Understand the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, HSBC Global Asset Management’s TCF philosophy and how this affects your role
    • Act in a manner that takes account of these principles to ensure fair outcomes for customers.

Skills and Qualifications:  

  • Excellent understanding of the European passive investment market, in particular the ETF market with prior experience at an equity ETF issuer required
  • Strong macro-economic outlook
  • Working knowledge of key business systems (Microsoft office esp. Powerpoint and excel) with ability to manipulate data and create collateral) a strong working knowledge of Bloomberg
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Additional European language required.
