Job Purpose:

  • The Investment Writer/Communications Manager will focus on writing and editing the Management Discussion of Fund Performance (MDFP) and President’s Letter content for shareholder reports, and other regulatory or shareholder communications for the Schwab Funds, Laudus Funds, and Schwab ETFs.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Create content using independent research, attribution reports, Portfolio Manager responses and other data analytics
  • Tailor and refine messaging in President’s Letter content, develop and maintain appropriate executive level voice and tone
  • Conduct research and analyze raw performance and attribution data to identify trends, and accurately convey fund performance and market conditions
  • Ensure all phases of the review and approval process are completed—coordinating preliminary draft reviews with Performance, Portfolio Management, and Legal
  • Facilitate final review meetings with senior management, ensuring all questions and comments are fully addressed prior to publishing, and maintain archives of source materials
  • Manage relationships with external writing vendors, providing oversight and direction
  • Identify and implement enhancements to content model, as well as the overall writing and review process, on an ongoing basis
  • Provide writing and editing support to Product Management for non-regulatory product-related communications, and other investment- or product-related materials, as needed
  • Cross-train on other team functions. Responsibilities will vary based on department need and priorities. 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of professional writing experience in the financial services industry; expertise as an investment writer managing mutual fund commentaries for domestic and international products, or as a research analyst covering such products preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred – or experience in business, economics, or finance.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization and successfully collaborate with multiple business partners
  • Firm grasp of the financial services industry, investment concepts, financial markets, mutual funds, and ETFs
  • Ability to research and analyze data from various sources, including attribution reports, and synthesize information into channel-appropriate content
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with expertise driving multiple projects from conception to completion in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Solid proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong technical skills, with ability to quickly learn online content management and production software/tools.
