Job Purpose: 

  • The role will provide global leadership and specialist experience on the Fixed Income asset class in the Funds and ETFs product line for GPB globally
  • May have management responsibilities for other product specialists
  • Responsible for oversight of selection of Fixed Income Funds and ETFs, and for the creation of high quality thought leadership materials which will help drive the adoption and growth of the product line globally
  • The role holder will be expected to have extensive interaction with external asset managers, and be able to write detailed reports, and make presentations to articulate his/her views with conviction, to clients and frontline colleagues in the Private Bank.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Impact on Business:
    • High quality Fund Selection of Fixed Income Funds and ETFs
    • Preparation and dissemination of thought leadership material, driving improved adoption of Fixed Income Funds and ETFs in client portfolios globally
    • Funds and ETFs are a core part of the advisory proposition for clients of HSBC Private Banking – the role holder will play a key role in ensuring that we have a well-researched set of Fixed Income Funds and ETFs, and adequate high-quality collaterals which will help drive their adoption in client portfolios
  • Customers/Stakeholders:
    • The role holder will be expected to have extensive interaction with external asset managers
    • Global Product Heads and other colleagues in the Global Products, Investments and Collaboration function will be a key network of functional expertise that the role holder will be expected to build on
    • The role holder should also be able to work collaboratively with local fund specialists who form part of the Global Funds team, and be able to influence frontline Investment Counsellors to drive greater usage of Funds and ETFs globally
    • The role will also involve client interaction and the job holder may need to obtain adequate regulatory certifications to enable the same

    • The role holder must cooperate, and engage constructively with both internal and external counterparts
    • The role holder will be an active member in the various Fund Selection committees and Global Funds committees

    • This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviors that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators
    • The jobholder is responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks in their day to day operations
    • In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structure referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defense’
    • The jobholder should ensure they understand their position within the Three Lines of Defense, and act accordingly in line with operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure of actions required
    • Through the implementation the Global AML, Sanctions and ABC Policies, supporting Guidance, and Line of Business Procedures the jobholder will make informed decisions in accordance with the core principles of HSBC’s Financial Crime Risk Appetite
    • Ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring, addressing areas of concern in conjunction with
    • Risk and relevant line colleagues, and also by ensuring that actions resulting from points raised by internal or external audits, and external regulators, are correctly implemented in a timely fashion
  • Major Challenges:
    • The role holder will be expected to help drive the adoption and penetration of Funds and ETFs within the Private Banking book globally
    • Strong communication is an important skill – as the role holder should be able to make presentations both in writing and in spoken presentations to articulate his / her views effectively to clients and frontline colleagues in the Private Bank.
    • The role holder will be expected to perform several of the following tasks:
    • Analyse, select and advise investments in Fixed Income Funds and ETFs to the benefit of clients
    • Build and maintain a high quality of analysis and advice on Fixed Income funds and ETFs globally
    • Act as a lead fund analyst for Fixed Income, helping produce selected fund lists, model portfolios and investment themes by running in depth analysis, making documented submissions, and monitoring Fund selection
    • Actively participate in the Global Fund Selection Committee and Fund Selection Process, chaired by the Global Head of Funds and ETFs, as well as represent the Funds & ETFs group in Investment meetings
    • Lead the support to Relationship Managers and Investment Counselors in proposing Fixed Income fund solutions to clients
    • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders (both within the ISPS team and the wider Private Bank, as well as Funds/ETFs houses)
    • Maintain awareness and comply with HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
    • Perform responsibilities with integrity and high standards of ethics, complying fully with the Compliance Policy as well as with both the spirit and letter of the law, rules and practices that govern the HSBC Group globally
    • Maintain awareness of the Operational Risk Scenario associated with the role.

Skills and Qualifications:  

  • 15 years or more of prior experience in the Funds / Asset Management industry with specialist exposure to Fixed Income
  • Prior experience should ideally include experience as a Fixed Income fund manager / fund selector or as an investment specialist in Fixed Income
  • Professional qualifications / certifications like a CFA, FRM, MBA are a positive but not a pre-requisite
  • The role will also involve client interaction and the job holder may need to obtain adequate regulatory certifications to enable the same
  • This is a senior role with important product line responsibilities and with frequent Senior Management contact at external Asset Managers.
