Your Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive the firmwide ESG positioning and top-of-the-house point of view
- Develop and drive firmwide ESG business strategy
- Manage overall ESG success metrics and P&L in coordination with regional/business leaders (Current ESG AUM $448 billion and $155 million in reveunes)
- Develop the vision for the team, including being accountable for the overall effectiveness of the team in supporting the business objectives
- Collaborate closely with Investment and Distribution teams to develop the product strategy, positioning in the marketplace and ESG-related client experience value drivers
- Define the product roadmap across the franchise, determining which capabilities should be prioritized and in what timeframe
- Understand and drive team wide understanding of market and industry dynamics, keeping his/her finger on the pulse of what competitors are doing, how the market is shifting and what impact these dynamics should have on product and client engagement strategy both in the short term and long term
- Drive innovation agenda through broad understanding of investment capabilities, client needs and competitor products
- Meet with institutional and retail intermediary clients, prospects, and consultants to engage in detailed discussions regarding State Street’s ESG heritage, vision for the future and ability to align with their objectives
- Coordinate with the broader State Street ESG initiative to amplify our collective voice, ensure alignment and advocate for the needs in the asset manager business
- Develop effective thematic and market-oriented thought leadership that helps clients see us as an essential partner
- This role will be responsible for driving SSGA’s ESG strategy and top-of-the-house views
- You will need to have a strong ESG presence in the marketplace in key client segments, with a sensitivity to how various client segments and regions are seeking to include ESG in their investment decision-making
- This role requires balancing points of view with client, competitive and other stakeholder pressures
- Politicization of the issues is a key risk to be managed
- You will need to manage business interests with ability to execute
- You will also have a high degree of media engagement on the topic; need to carefully construct and articulate defensible points of view.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MBA, PhD or similar) preferred; CFA or other industry accreditation a plus Minimum 15 years experience investment management, preferably with a large global asset manager, asset owner or consulting organization
- ESG expertise including regulatory and industry initiatives
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing global teams
- Understanding of client needs including products and services, as well as other value drivers
- Strong collaboration skills, willingness to challenge the status quo and drive execution
- Ability to influence across siloes and motivate key partners
- Excellent communication skills across all mediums.
