ESG solutions enable investors to develop and integrate responsible investing policies and practices, engage on responsible investment issues, and monitor portfolio company practices through screening solutions. It also provides climate data, analytics, and advisory services to help financial market participants understand, measure, and act on climate-related risks across all asset classes. In addition, ESG solutions cover corporate and country ESG research and ratings enabling its clients to identify material social and environmental risks and opportunities.

OVERVIEW

ISS ESG is seeking an ESG Specialist to join its Climate Research and Development team as part of the ISS ESG Climate Solutions unit for a full-time position. The successful candidate will have a background in the environmental sciences, engineering or have a proven experience in the topic of responsible investment with a focus on climate change. They should have a collaborative approach to work and proven abilities to proactively contribute to problem solving and to work with high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

The R&D team is responsible for maintaining and developing climate products at ISS ESG, e.g. products relating to physical and transitional climate risks. The successful candidate will manage product development topics and support the coordination of the R&D teams efforts. The candidate is also expected to support the implementation of client mandates and support sales colleagues in prospect calls as a subject matter expert. This includes interactions with colleagues and clients from around the globe and getting involved in several aspects of operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage climate related product development topics throughout the product development life cycle.

  • Develop products related to both qualitative and quantitative climate metrics

  • Develop products connecting climate change and other environmental topics

  • Support the coordination of the R&D efforts within the climate team

  • Identify opportunities and find creative approaches to enhance the product portfolio.

  • Improve existing and implement new R&D processes.

  • Work closely with analysts to identify ways to support and augment their daily work

  • Digest and present relevant climate related information to the wider organisation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience relating to sustainability/ESG consulting, environmental consulting, investment carbon footprinting, climate impact assessments of investments, GHG-accounting, or Life Cycle Analysis is required.

  • Advanced university degree ideally in environmental science, engineering, economics, international relations or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative climate metrics.

  • Demonstrated interest in sustainability in general and specific knowledge in climate change.

  • Experience in corporate GHG accounting and/or corporate climate transition analysis is an advantage.

  • Excellent analytical skills and conceptual thinking aptitude.

  • Very strong project management/organizational skills & track-record in meeting deadlines for multi-stakeholder projects.

  • Excellent command of English; additional languages are an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience with Data Mining and Data Analysis technologies and language, including Python, pandas, Jupyter Notebook, Matplotlib, NumPy is an advantage.

  • Experience writing and publishing ESG related blog posts is a plus.

  • Very good command of Microsoft Office applications (including Excel).

  • Willingness to work with a highly collaborative, flexible, and innovative team across different time zones.
