Job purpose:

  • American Century Investments launched a new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) platform to support new and existing American Century strategies, and separate account opportunities
  • We understand that ESG issues may present risks and opportunities which can affect the performance of individual securities to varying degrees over time
  • We are seeking an analyst to join our ESG initiative, and sit within our global non-US equity investment discipline
  • Reporting to the Vice President, Head of ESG and Investment Stewardship, this individual would work closely with our investment analysts to ensure ESG factors are integrated into our fundamental research process
  • The incumbent will also take part in accelerating the firm’s investment-led engagement protocol and existing Active Ownership activities. This role will be based in New York or in Kansas City (MO).

Your Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day execution on research pipeline across multi-billion dollar/all-cap global equity strategies using proprietary ESG assessment tools, and third-party data
  • Conduct ESG risk analysis and engagement of issuers by working closely with fundamental analysts to ensure ESG risk factors are integrated into investment process
  • Researching and providing ESG-focused insights to investment teams on the materiality of certain proxy ballot items in collaboration with the firm’s ESG researchers and compliance team
  • Serve as advocate for ESG both internally and externally.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of financial services experience; experience in ESG research (either asset owner, asset manager or data provider) is a definite plus
  • Strong knowledge of ESG risk issues and financial materiality
  • Direct Experience in proxy voting research and administration, including strong understanding of third-party proxy research providers is preferred
  • Fluency with extra-financial data analysis – Proficiency with excel is a must
  • Experience working with Bloomberg Terminal, and third-party ESG data platforms (MSCI, ISS)
  • Degree in finance, economics or environmental studies preferred
  • Problem-solving work ethics
  • Priority management/Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Established sector experience preferred.
