Overview of the role

The Governance and Stewardship team supports investment teams across the globe with a wide range of ESG integration strategies, including specialist SRI funds. It focuses on corporate governance issues, including voting, and analysis of environmental and social issues. A substantial part of the team’s work is company engagement, including collaborative engagement through Janus Henderson’s participation in a wide range of external ESG groups and initiatives.

The Governance and Stewardship Team is part of the broader ESG Investments Team, and you will work closely with ESG sector analysts and ESG implementation specialists to help deliver on an evolving range of business and client ESG requirements.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Support and advise a broad range of investment teams on ESG company engagement
  • Engage with senior management and board directors of investee companies to encourage the adoption of high standards of governance and stewardship
  • Provide advice to investment teams on proxy voting issues
  • Take the lead on partnering with specific investment teams, helping them develop and implement a company engagement strategy
  • Represent Janus Henderson in external forums, collaborative investor initiatives and working groups
  • Work closely with colleagues in distribution to help communicate Janus Henderson’s ESG engagement work to clients
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of a broad range of ESG issues including corporate governance
  • Significant experience of company engagement work or equivalent relevant work experience

We are open to a range of experience and considering applications from individuals with relevant work experience outside of Asset Management

Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed, in line with applicable regulatory requirements, by:

  • Annual performance appraisal
  • Completion of all assigned compliance training
  • Annual attestation (Knowledge and Competence in-scope roles only)

Compliance requirements 

At a minimum the role will require you to:

  • Place the interest of Janus Henderson’s Clients first, act in accordance with TCF (Treating Customers Fairly) principles
  • Understand and follow laws and regulations applicable for your role, seeking the help of your supervising manager or Compliance if additional guidance is required
  • Understand and abide by all Janus Henderson policies applicable to your role, and seek support/guidance of the policy owner guidance when required
  • You are ultimately accountable for your actions and responsible for seeking further information on any or all of the above as necessary.
