ROLE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE

We have an excellent career opportunity for an ESG Analyst in our Paris or London office. The ESG Analyst will play a generalist role supporting the ESG Research team with sector research on the ESG performance of companies, as well as thematic research focused on Energy transition, Environmental sustainability and Equality (the “3Es”), with an emphasis on the Environmental theme. The role will also support the implementation of BNPPAM’s broader Global Sustainability Strategy including related to ESG integration, responsible business conduct, stewardship and thematic product development. In addition to supporting ESG Topic Leads, the ESG Analyst will have the opportunity to develop their own portfolio of projects and to engage regularly with portfolio management teams.

The successful candidate will work within the Sustainability Centre (members located in Paris, London, NY and Hong Kong), which undertakes innovative research and policy development, guides BNPP AM’s investment stewardship and industry engagement activities, and supports investment teams in accessing, integrating and reporting on ESG indicators across the whole organization. This is a unique opportunity to assume an ESG role within a leading asset manager with an ambitious sustainable investment agenda.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Bespoke Research Projects: Support senior team members in the development and delivery of specific research projects, such as relating to supply chain risk, water/deforestation, or equality and inclusive growth. 
  • Sector Research: Support senior ESG analysts in undertaking sector reviews, including the research and scoring of companies to provide insights into company-specific ESG risks and opportunities, address forward looking views with a focus on Energy Transition, Environmental Sustainability and Equality (‘3Es”), and identify related points to address via engagement. There is a potential to take on responsibility for one or two sectors within the first year of taking on this role.
  • ESG Integration: Support the refinement of BNP PAM’s proprietary industry-leading ESG scoring platform, including either supporting the assessment of how the scoring platform can evolve (e.g. via the inclusion of new data), as well as through the application of structured company overlays using bespoke research inputs. Likely focus to be on data related to the environmental footprint of companies e.g. biodiversity impacts, water usage, forest impacts, etc. and related quantification (as heuristics or quantified via environmental economics approaches).
  • Thematic Research – Macro: Exploring the intersection between the “3Es” and the broader political, investment and/or economic environment.
  • Product Development: Contribute to product development particularly within BNP PAM’s growing environmentally-themed product area.
  • Stakeholders – Internal: Support effective coordination between the Sustainability Centre and a range of internal stakeholders (investment teams, marketing, client relations, etc.); focus to be on supporting the growing subset of environmental themed products.
  • General: Support the contribution of content to due diligence processes and contribute to marketing and business development materials reflecting the firm’s approach. Support the Research Team head in team workflow planning and tracking.

  • Significant experience in investment analysis with a strong exposure to sustainability
  • Relevant financial and academic background
  • Strong knowledge and interest in sustainability, environmental economics or related subjects
  • Proven ability to work effectively both individually and as part of an international team and with multiple stakeholders
  • French language desirable but not required
  • Knowledge of GIS systems and/or Input-Output modeling a plus
