JPMorgan Chase is hiring an Executive Director to lead enterprise-wide ESG engagement in the EMEA region. The position will sit within Corporate Responsibility and report to the Global Head of Sustainability, with dotted line responsibility to senior partners in key policy-related and client-facing positions. The ideal candidate will be based in London, though consideration may be given to strong candidates in other locations in the EMEA region.

Sustainability Team & Corporate Responsibility:

The Sustainability team works to advance sustainability in the financing activities of JPMorgan Chase’s lines of business (LOBs) and throughout our operations. The team manages several key priorities, including: the development and implementation of firmwide sustainability and climate-related commitments; internal and external reporting and communications on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters; client, investor and stakeholder engagement on ESG; sustainability grantmaking; reputation risk management; and operational sustainability management.

The Sustainability team is part of JPMorgan Chase’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) department, whose mission is to advance a stronger, more durable and safe financial system, and an inclusive economy and society for clients, customers and communities around the world. In addition to Sustainability, CR includes teams focused on policy and regulatory affairs, global philanthropy, impact finance, community engagement and data analysis and research. The Sustainability team works closely with these groups throughout CR as well as with senior executives and partners in the LOBs, Risk Management, Corporate Strategy, Legal, Treasury, Investor Relations, Global Real Estate and others on a day-to-day basis.

The Executive Director will be a senior-level ESG and sustainability subject matter expert and proven leader, manager and influencer, who thrives in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment and builds strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. The role will require close coordination with several different groups including Global Government Relations, Risk Management, our LOBs (e.g., Corporate & Investment Bank, Asset and Wealth Management), Communications, Global Philanthropy, Corporate Strategy, and Legal, among others.

The main areas of responsibility for the role include:

  • Identify and evaluate ESG trends and policy developments in the EMEA region, and partner with Global Government Relations and LOBs to assess and communicate the implications for clients and business activity to leaders across the firm, and advise on the proactive formulation of risk management and business strategies
  • Work with internal partners (e.g., Global Government Relations, Investor Relations, LOBs) to build and manage key relationships with a range of stakeholders in the EMEA region, including policymakers, clients, investors, trade groups and NGOs regarding JPMorgan Chase’s ESG strategy and initiatives, and other ESG topics/matters
  • Develop positions and engagement strategies on ESG-related issues, and lead engagement with a range of external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
  • Advise on JPMC’s sustainability grantmaking efforts in the EMEA region, focused on conservation finance, low-carbon acceleration and community climate resilience and adaptation, including exploring new opportunities and relationships that advance/reinforce the firm’s sustainability priorities
  • Support partners leading the firm’s operational sustainability and communications efforts around ESG in the EMEA region, including employee engagement

Serve as a senior spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase in EMEA in key industry forums, ESG and sustainability-focused trade groups and multi-stakeholder initiatives, in addition to client events and industry conferences

 

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a candidate with following qualifications and skills:

  • Support partners leading the firm’s operational sustainability and communications efforts around ESG in the EMEA region, including employee engagementServe as a senior spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase in EMEA in key industry forums, ESG and sustainability-focused trade groups and multi-stakeholder initiatives, in addition to client events and industry conferences
  • Extensive  experience in ESG, whether through finance, business, policy, law, nonprofits and/or consulting, preferably with a range of experience across different functions and/or fields; experience and/or knowledge of finance strongly preferred
  • Deep subject matter expertise on sustainability and ESG issues and trends, with the ability and appetite to quickly develop expertise on new and emerging issues
  • Exceptional people management and organizational skills, including analytical and quantitative skills, critical thinking and decision-making;
  • Excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to distill and present complex information plainly and succinctly
  • Strong attention to detail and quality of work
  • Strong executive presence, with the ability to present to senior management and external stakeholders with confidence
  • Ability to excel and maintain a positive attitude in a high-performance, fast-paced professional environment, while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
