Job Purpose:

  • The primary objective of the role will be to engage in research and development supporting existing and new equity and multi-asset index initiatives for ICE Data Indices and help grow its products, services, and clients as a senior member of the team. Success will be measured by the accuracy, efficiency, and quality of work performed in the course of executing projects, launching new indices, supporting existing clients, and improving existing procedures and processes leading to greater efficiency for business
  • The role will be actively involved in researching new index concepts based on client demand and market conditions. This will involve testing and compilation of an index methodology, backtesting the index utilizing tools (Python, Excel, SQL, VBA), and also helping to maintain and improve tools required in this process. The position will also involve client interaction on a regular basis, in order to understand requirements, manage projects, and support them in other ways
  • The candidate is also expected to help drive efficiencies in existing processes and workflows. This can be achieved via both technical (programming) and method-based means (change in order of operations, consolidation). The candidate will also be required to help document any changes to methods, processes, and workflow for audit and compliance purposes
  • The role will require an organized, proactive approach to client interaction, working with clients to understand their needs, escalating and prioritizing issues/questions, and reverting back to them in a timely and comprehensive fashion. This will require a knowledge and genuine interest in not only general finance and securities markets, but more specifically the areas of indexing, ETFs, passive investing, smart beta, ESG, and other emerging areas in our industry.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Research and Development Supporting New and Existing Indices
  • Engage in the development and maintenance of new and existing tools for index research, backtesting and validation
  • Work with clients and internal teams to construct and implement requested new indices for business growth
  • Using market knowledge and industry experience, research, test, and launch innovative new indices based upon client demand, market conditions, and investment trends
  • Build and execute applicable screens and algorithms to perform required research, including generating client reports and publications
  • Operational Support for Indices and Coordination of Index Functional Technology Enhancements
  • Maintain and administer models supporting more complex indices and ETN/ETF intraday indicative values, including the preparation of custom baskets and complex index models before market open and after market close
  • Work with Development, QA, Project Management and Operations teams to draft specifications, test, and implement functional enhancements to the index calculation system and outbound real-time and referential data platforms
  • Improve existing index rebalancing workflows via automation, and execute index rebalances to ensure timely and accurate compilation and communication to the market and incorporation into the index calculation system.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 7+ years of experience in the financial services industry
  • Strong preference for at least 5 years of direct index-related experience, either at an index provider or asset manager
  • Past work focusing on index product development and research is preferred
  • Has extensive expertise with global, multi-asset indices, ETFs, portfolio valuation techniques, corporate actions, index methodologies and construction, and securities markets
  • Has a strong understanding of the passive and index landscape, both from a competitive (market dynamics) and product offering perspective
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office tools
  • Must be proficient in at least one object-oriented programming language, with emphasis on VBA and Python
  • Must have a working knowledge of Oracle / SQL databases
  • Must be familiar with one or more financial market data terminals, with emphasis on FactSet, Thomson Reuters, and ICE Data platforms
  • Work skills / General skills:

  • Detail-oriented, organized, attentive, driven, client-focused, and a team player
  • Strong communication skills to engage both internal stakeholders/parties and external clients
  • Well-rounded with an ability to engage on both a quantitative and sales/marketing level
  • A secondary language covering a financial market or region is a plus
  • Qualifications / Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in an Economics or Finance related field
  • Masters in Economics/Finance or an MBA is a plus
  • CFA, CAIA, or other professional designation is a plus
