Job purpose:

  • Global X ETFs, a New York-based sponsor of Exchange Traded Funds, is seeking an Associate – Research Analyst, Japan to join our global team
  • The Associate will be located at Global X’s NY headquarters and serve as a bridge between our US-based research team and growing efforts in Japan and greater Asia
  • The Associate will develop a deep knowledge of the firm’s 70+ US-listed ETFs, including those involved in disruptive technologies and themes, high income alternatives, ESG, emerging markets, and commodities
  • By developing a deep understanding of our firm, our products and the market forces that impact them, and the global ETF and asset management landscape, this person is expected to play an entrepreneurial and impactful role in growing Global X’s presence and assets under management in Japan
  • This high visibility role will also offer cross-functional opportunities to assist in product development, marketing, sales, and capital markets.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Support the Global X Japan team by becoming a resource with deep knowledge of Global X’s US ETFs (investment methodologies, product details, market drivers, competitive products)
  • Create and maintain insightful and engaging research content, including reports, factsheets, presentations, and blog posts, as well as localizing existing content for the Japanese market
  • Monitor and analyze recent news, research, earnings, and economic data for a variety of countries, industries, and companies relevant to our ETFs
  • Communicate information about Global X’s ETFs and market insights to a range of professional investors via conference calls, webinars, in-person meetings, and presentations to large groups both in the US and in Japan
  • Respond to client and internal questions about ETF methodology, performance attribution, fundamentals, and macro-drivers
  • Work closely with the capital markets team to assist Japanese investors with trade execution
  • Prepare weekly and ad-hoc research notes and trade ideas for Global X’s distribution teams and partners
  • Conduct regular and ad-hoc research projects for internal and external stakeholders on a range of topics relevant to our ETFs or the global ETF industry.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Professional fluency in both English and Japanese
  • Adept at synthesizing and concisely communicating nuanced ideas to investors and senior decision makers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to large groups and in print and TV media
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects in a dynamic environment
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, who can identify and capture valuable opportunities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience and/or relevant coursework in financial research and analysis
  • 2-5 years of work experience (research experience preferred but not required)
  • Proven success in demonstrating quantitative, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Practical knowledge of global financial markets, investing, and asset management
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (internal and external)
  • Bachelor’s degree from a leading university, ideally in business, finance, statistics, economics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related fields
  • Progress towards or completion of CFA, MBA, CFP, CAIA, or similar professional designation, preferred.
